Annual Flag Placement Ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery - May 18th - 9:00 to 11:00

Posted on May 21 2019 - 11:12am

Scouts should wear their Class A Uniforms.  We will meet with a member of the East Aurora American Legion who will provide American Flags for placement on graves of veterans in the cemetery.  Scouts and their parents will respectfully walk the cemetery looking for grave markers and place flags at the appropriate graves.   We encourage you to bring water to drink and at times there is not a flag holder at a grave so a long screwdriver is helpful to create a hole in the ground for the flag in the event the ground is hard.  Each year we assist members of the East Aurora American Legion to place flags at the gravesites of the men and women who have served our country. Please consider joining us on this day to honor all of them.  Meet at the Oakwood Cemetery in East Aurora on Oakwood Avenue. Look for the truck where they will be handing out flags for the graves. Flags are placed in flag holders at graves if they have them and in the ground near the grave stones if not. Graves are marked in some way to indicate military service. We will be doing this as a joint service project with Boy Scouts from Troop 513. This event starts @ 9:00 (the calendar previously said 8...please note this time change). Hope to see you there.
